There is something magical when students find learning FUN! I think that is the ultimate goal for all teachers and parents. One of my favorite ways to do this is by incorporating themed centers into the classroom, like this Apple Number Match math center. My students are always so excited for their centers that sometimes I wonder if they even know that they are doing work and learning.

Be sure to check out more of our apple learning activities for early childhood!

What’s Inside the Apple Number Match:

This center includes numbers 1-10. There are 10 baskets that each have a number on it and then 6 apple cards that each have a different way of counting to the specific number.

Students will fill their empty baskets with apples. They will do this by counting seeds and fingers on a hand, counting dots on dominoes, dice, and tens frame, reading the number word.

  • laminating pouches

What I love about this particular center is that you can easily and quickly accommodate whatever age and/or ability of your students or children.

For preschool-age students, you can choose only one or two of the apple cards and have students match the apples to the basket. This will allow them to be successful and not get easily frustrated.

As they master the first card, you can add another and then another. The center can grow with them. If you know that a particular apple card is going to be too difficult/easy – just leave it out of the center. You can tailor it to fit your students’ needs.

If your students are able to be successful with every card included, I recommend starting out with a a handful of numbers at a time – do not just give them all ten numbers. That can be a bit overwhelming as there are six apple cards per number. Once they can handle four or five numbers, add more and before you know it they will be completing the entire center easily.

Hello! I am trying very hard to download the Apple Number Match Freebie activity because it would be great for subitizing. However, the only download button I see is for the year’s worth of match ups. Help! Please and thank you!

You really make it appear really easy along with your presentation but I in finding this topic to be actually one thing that I believe I might never understand. It kind of feels too complex and extremely wide for me. I’m looking ahead on your next submit, I will attempt to get the hold of it!
